| In August 2006 Katie and I backpacked into the Golden Trout Wilderness for six days. We were both trying to get our California Heritage Trout Challenge certificates, and the GTW is home to three of the unique populations of native "Heritage" trout in California. We hiked in from the Lewis trailhead on the west side. We spent time fishing the Little Kern River, the mainstem Kern River, and Golden Trout Creek. We had a ton of fun and we both managed to catch all three heritage trout: the Little Kern golden, Kern River rainbow, and California golden trout. |
